The long awaited affordable open-heart surgery unit at Human Race is now here. The Unit is led by the renowned and world class consultant cardiothoracic surgeon well known through out the country for his passion for accessible

sustainable and affordable heart surgery for Nigerians irrespective of patient’s class within the society. MrOcNzewias he is popularly known and liked to be addressed as, brings along 30 years of experience as senior cardiothoracic surgeon in UK. (He only just retired in 2020 to concentrate on affordable care mantle of his charity work in Nigeria). He has assembled an enviable team of international and local faculty to assist him in delivery of world class care to our clients, to be measured by same the standard of care that is applicable in UK.

He is a teacher and mentor extraordinary and have trained 30 consultants cardiothoracic surgeons working across the world- in UK, USA and Asia. His main passion is in development of safe, sustainable and affordable cardiothoracic units both in a limited resource environment and as well as in the rich countries. His most recent venture in this area includes FCC open-heart surgery Unit in Ikoyi, Nigeria and The Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group Heart Centre in Belfast. His specialty interest includes; blood conservation in cardiac surgery. Minimally invasive aortic valve surgery,cardiac surgery in the elderly, aortic root and aneurysmal surgery, surgery for constrictive pericarditis and governance & audit as marker of care quality improvement, He has published and presented extensively at international meetings in these areas.MrOcNzewi is a member of NCS, ACTSON, SCTS, EACTS and STS as well as Member of Board of Trustees in many Charitable organizations both in Nigeria and UK.

MrOcNzewi is the current Executive Director of Friends of Nigeria-RVH Save a Heart Foundation- a UK registered Charity Organization: he is very proud of this foundation’s involvement in re-introduction of open-heart surgery in Nigeria in 2013 and in the overall development of cardiothoracic surgery in Nigeria.
